He was the proud son of Herbert Eldridge and Catherine O'Meara Williams and brother of Eldridge Kent Williams and Martha Williams Ray.
Tom grew up in Richmond, VA, and spent his entire career with William Byrd Press. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Tommy passed away surrounded by the love of his wife of 56 years, Shirley Fletcher Williams; his daughter, Cathy Williams Butterworth; and his faithful and beloved cat, Spanky.
He found joy in spending time with his family and friends at the river, playing and watching golf, fishing, caring for his and his daughter's pets, celebrating the Christmas season, rooting for the Redskins and any college team in Virginia, listening to his favorite music (Irish, Motown, and the theme song from Cops), planning his television viewing with the TV Guide section of the Richmond Times Dispatch, and buying in bulk from Costco. In his last years, his true joy was playing with his great-granddaughter, Amelia Catherine Revels.
He will be remembered most for his unwavering stubbornness, his soft heart for children and animals, his immense generosity, and his boundless love and pride for his grandchildren: Allison Butterworth Revels, Andrew Tyler Butterworth, and Ryan Thomas Butterworth.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Virginia, especially Kelly, Stephanie, Alyssa, and Joseph, for their compassionate care, strength, and guidance.
To honor Tom’s memory, the family kindly requests donations to the Richmond Animal League (11401 International Drive, North Chesterfield, VA 23236) or to an animal welfare organization of your choice.
