On April 2, 2022, we lost our amazing mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. The loving matriarch of our family was born in Henderson, Colorado on November 6, 1923, to Malcolm Russell and Dorothy Tiedeman. Bette and her three siblings, Dottie, Lois, and Malcolm Jr., grew up on a farm in Colorado where she also attended school. She worked as a secretary during World War II. On April 16. 1944, Bette married Russell Andrews and had three lovely and exceptional daughters. The family moved to Utah in 1952, Bette and Russ later divorced. In 1986, Bette married Frank Mayo Brickey who preceded her in death.
Bette retired twice and began her second career at the age of 88 working as a bookkeeper for Gordon Jenson Trucking. She retired the second time at the age of 95. She loved learning and was never afraid of new technology. She used a computer and always sent the most emoji filled texts to everyone! She kept herself busy serving in many organizations within the Methodist church. She loved sewing quilts that were donated, being a greeter during church service, introducing herself to guests as the “Church Grandmother.” She was actively involved in the local P.E.O. Chapter where she had many wonderful friends. She participated in the United Nations and United Methodist Women’s group, among many others. She truly lived a life of service and found great joy in serving others.
Bette had many other hobbies included painting, puzzles, solitaire, travel, and the Denver Broncos – she always had a nickel to bet on the game, but more than that, she loved to spend time with her friends and adoring family. Bette loved hosting the family parties, and pretty much anyone who knew her was quickly adopted as one of her own.
In her 98 years, she made so many magnificent friends who she loved dearly. Margaret, Ruth, Kit, Karen, Becky, Bill, Donna, Alaina, Joanne, Gordy, Brian and so many, many more who loved her like she was their own Mother or Grandmother.
She was a vivacious and truly content person. She suffered many losses and tough times, but her strong faith in God never faltered. She was always kind, but firm in her advice and made sure to be honest even when she knew it wasn’t what we wanted to hear. Bette was generous to a fault and would give you the shirt off her own back – Just ask her grandson Jake! She could easily laugh at herself and showed true kindness to everyone. She loved to learn and took advantage of today’s technology.
She is survived by daughter Debbi Green, eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by daughters Karon Washburn, Sharon Andrews, sisters Dorothy and Lois, brother Malcolm, husband Frank, grandchildren: Ronnie, Missy, Hope, Kelly, Danyel and three great grandchildren: Shamonique, Lucas and Cole.
Bette leaves a legacy of love for family and friends, a strong faith, and love of Jesus and God. She leaves a huge hole in our hearts and an example of how we should live a good, kind, and loving life. Please leave a memory or message for the family, they will be greatly appreciated.
