

Betty’s family moved to Panama City, Florida in 1937. She graduated from Bay County High School in Panama City in 1948 and attended Gulf Coast Community College. Betty was employed as a computer specialist/programmer at the Naval Coastal Systems Center until her retirement in 1987, when she relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah to be closer to her daughter Carol and Carol’s son, Michael. She lived in Salt Lake City until her death.
She was married to Leon Harrison in 1949. The marriage ended in divorce in 1960. Betty married Lewis L. Stone on February 15, 1969 and they lived happily together until Lewis’ death in 2020.
A lover of the arts, Betty served on the Board of Directors of the Ballet Theater of Northwest Florida and the Panama City Music Association. She enjoyed the ballet, symphony, and theater and attended performances regularly.
Lewis and Betty both loved to sail and had two sailboats, one named Liberty while living in Florida and Cygnet while living in Utah. She was a member of the St. Andrew Bay Power Squadron Auxiliary in Panama City and a United States Power Squadron Certificate Holder.
In Salt Lake City, Betty was a member of Chapter A.I. of P.E.O., where she had served as President, and the Town Club, where she loved to play bridge. She was a communicant of the Cathedral Church of St. Mark and served as an usher and as a member of the Altar Guild.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Carol Harrison Kroesche (Guy), Nancy Stone Terry (Mark), Marjorie Stone Hagen; five grandchildren, Michael and Chase Kroesche, Katherine Terry Moorhead, Jennifer Terry Nygren, and Richard Lewis Terry; and four great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lewis, her sister Bonnie Childs Brydon, and her parents Ruth Hayes Childs and Barney Childs.
A celebration of life will be June 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Church of St. Mark, 231 E 100 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.
