C. Isabell Traube, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of September 16, 2025, at the age of 92. She was surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and the devoted care staff of A Plus Hospice and Sagewood at Daybreak in South Jordan, Utah.
Born on February 8, 1933, in Thomas, Idaho, to Philip Charles Hawkes and Beatrice Kellgreen, Isabell was raised by her father and siblings. She attended Snake River High School in Blackfoot, Idaho, and later moved to Salt Lake City, where she studied at LDS Business College before being encouraged to apply to United Airlines—a decision that shaped the rest of her life.
At United Airlines, Isabell found both her calling and her community. She began as a stewardess (1955–1963) and later worked in Flight Operations with pilots at United’s San Francisco domicile (1963–2005). She took great pride in supporting “her pilots” and built lifelong friendships that brought her deep joy. United also fueled her lifelong love of travel—first with girlfriends on a whirlwind trip around the world in 1959, and later on countless journeys with her husband, daughter, and grandchildren. She and her late husband, Robert James Traube (1923–2009), whom she married on October 3, 1964, in Salt Lake City, shared a passion for exploring the world together.
Isabell will be remembered for her warmth, optimism, and kindness to all. She consistently saw the good in people, met life with friendliness and grace, and never let anger or fear overshadow her spirit. These are the qualities she leaves for her family to carry forward.
She is survived by her only daughter, Natasha Traube Bottari; her cherished grandsons, Luke Robert Bottari and Dante Victor Bottari; her devoted son-in-law, Kevin C. Woodsford; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, especially Cathy (David) Stallworth, who lovingly supported her in her later years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert; her siblings, Barbara Jones, Jean Ruhlander, and Charlie Hawkes; and her parents.
A graveside service to celebrate Isabell’s long and incredible life will be held on October 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. Burial will follow. All who knew and loved Isabell are welcome.
