

Calvin Murphy Cannon (Cal) returned to his Father in Heaven on October 25, 2014. Calvin was born on July 28th, 1935 in Salt Lake City, UT, to Marcella Murphy and Milton Bennion Cannon. He was the youngest of four siblings. He grew up having adventures on his parent’s chicken farm, riding his wild pony Penny, playing all sorts of sports, and loving the outdoors.
Cal graduated from Granite High School and then served a LDS mission to Southern California. He married Karen Livingston (his high school sweetheart) on January 7th, 1958; shortly after his return from his mission. They had four children Cory (Brandy) Cannon, Kelly Condie, Kim (Ron) Brimley, and Katrina (Mike) Tuckfield.
Cal was the owner of Golden West Barber Shop in the heart of Holladay, Utah where he cut hair for over 50 years. He was always a very hard worker in all he encountered. He raised horses all his life, and in his teenage years he developed a love for American Saddlebreds. His passion in life was riding, driving, training and showing these horses. He was a master at breeding horses, knowing all the bloodlines by heart. He raised, trained and rode his horse Durgon to two national championships in 1972 and 1974.
He was active in the LDS church all of his life and loved the church very much. He was a High Priest at the time of his passing. He served in many callings during his life, but his favorite was that of home teacher. He loved people and was loving and kind to everyone. He always went out of his way to serve others, especially his family that he loved so dearly. His loved his grandchildren (11) and great grandchildren (15). He loved to gather around his family and supported his grandchildren to the very end.
Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary on Wednesday, October 29th at 2:00pm, with a viewing October 28th from 6 to 8pm and prior to the funeral from 12:30-2pm.
