Darwin "Deak" Harold Deakins, 77, of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away on November 12, 2010.
Deak was born July 10, 1933 in Salt Lake City, UT to Harold Mathew Deakins and Marian Berthia Deakins. He graduated from Granite High School and married Barbara Mitchell, later divorced. They have two children, Scott M Deakins and Lisa Deakins. Deak and Linda Lue Hiller married February 15th, 1969 in Lake Tahoe. Together they have a daughter, Chelsea Anna Deakins.
As a successful entrepreneur, Deak owned and operated D&H Steel for 40 years and loved and respected the people he worked with; however, family always came first. Integrity was the core of all he did and was even considered a hero. He loved to travel and had a great passion for golf - he fulfilled a lifelong dream of playing at St. Andrew's in Scotland. Deak was outgoing, generous, kind and always ready to lend a hand.
Deak is survived by his loving wife Linda, children Scott (Kaylene ), Lisa, and Chelsea, grandchildren Brandy and Crystal Deakins, siblings Virginia Ivie, Margie Turner and step-brother Daniel Gibson (Tempe, AZ).
Preceded in death by parents, brother Jerry Deakins and step-brother Lynn Gibson.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, U of U Health Sciences or the charity of your choice.
