I met Eliza once when my child had a playdate with Susan’s. She was a lady of intelligence and great strength of spirit. I know she was well cared for by your family, who supported her in standing strong and independent through her final journey. She must be so proud of all she accomplished—and of her children and grandchildren.

(Part 2) Through all the time we spent together, I learned the virtues of diligence, service, kindness, and patience from you. I am certain your children, grandchildren, and friends would all agree that they had the best mother, the best grandmother, and the best friend. I truly feel so lucky and blessed to have had you in my life.

Until we meet again, enjoy the joyful reunion with Grandma, Grandpa, our grandaunts and granduncles, and all your kitties and doggies.

Dearest E ma,
At this moment, the most important thing is for you to know how much I miss you and how my heart is filled with gratitude. Thank you for the countless beautiful memories you have given me throughout my life.
From the time I was little, playing with me and reading me stories, to every time you returned to Hong Kong to visit us. I remember one time, after you had stayed with us for a few days and had to return to Grandma's house, I started crying and begging you to stay with us just a little longer. I was so happy that you were able to stay with us for a couple more days.
This time, E ma, you really have to go. Even if I cried, I must let you return to our Heavenly Father's home. But I am grateful to know this separation is only temporary.
When I went to the US to study, thank you for welcoming me into your home and caring for me. During my teenage years, you gave me essential support and encouragement. You always taught with love, positivity,patience, and by setting a wonderful example. I am so grateful I could spend that time with you, you gave me so many opportunities to explore new things. I have fond memories of watching you  gardening, the seasonal canning and making grape juice. You taught me to cook various dishes—like making scallion pancakes together and preparing so many delicious meals for me. I also remember joining you once as a volunteer at St. Mark's Hospital in the postpartum unit. I followed you on your shift and saw firsthand how you cared for new mothers and newborns; you were an exceptional nurse. Even after coming home from work in the evening, your first priority was always to feed Andy the dog and the black cat. There are simply too many cherished memories to possibly recount them all. After I graduated from university and left Utah for California, where I met Schubert, you always warmly welcomed both him and me into your home whenever you visited San Francisco.
You are the best E ma anyone could ever have. (See part2)

I met Sis. Eliza Poon while attending the South San Francisco ward. She was always kind to me and my husband and I could feel her special spirit every time I had the opportunity to see her. She was truly a blessed daughter of our Heavenly Father. 
I am truly sad to no longer be able to see and converse with her, but I know she is now in a better place, wrapped in the warmth of our Heavenly Father’s love.
My condolences to the family, and I pray that you can feel His care and His spirit of comfort in the days ahead.

At this moment, Eliza is surely on the other side of the veil, joyfully reunited with loved ones. Those are the moments she always longed for and lovingly remembered.

I will always remember my eldest sister, Eliza.

Two of my older sisters, Eliza and Diana, were baptized and joined the Church in the 1960s. At that time Hong Kong was experiencing a severe water shortage, so baptisms could only be performed at the beach. Back then, Sunday meetings were arranged differently: Sunday School was held in the morning and Sacrament Meeting was held in the evening. Every Wednesday was Mutual youth activity night, and Saturday was Primary for the children. Eliza’s calling was to serve as a Primary teacher. Our grandmother was unhappy that Eliza and Diana went to church so frequently—three times a week—and were often not at home. I remember one particular Sunday when Eliza told us that after the morning meeting she would take my younger siblings and me to have dim sum. That was the first time my sister Mable, my brother David, and I attended church meetings. From then on, every Sunday the three of us went to church. At that time, Mable, David, and I attended Primary. Because Eliza and Diana attended church so regularly and were often away from home, my mother began to regret allowing them to be baptized. So she did not allow my younger siblings and me to be baptized until I turned 18. But during all those years, Eliza continued bringing us to church meetings and helping us learn the gospel and understand the Church. I sincerely thank Eliza and Diana for their perseverance in helping me and my siblings learn the gospel, which brought the blessings of the gospel to me and to my family. This past September, my son Spencer, my son-in-law Schubert, and I went to Salt Lake City to visit Eliza. For several days, we ate together every day with Eliza, with Diana, and with Diana’s son Daniel. During those meals, on more than one occasion, Eliza’s eyes filled with joyful tears and she happily said, “I am in Heaven.” I will forever treasure those moments of joy with Eliza. We were deeply touched by her happiness and the spirit she brought to us.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Eliza recently.
When we said goodbye to each other, there’s one moment I’ll never forget. We both cried, and with tears in our eyes, we said the words, “唔啥得你.” In that moment, I felt so much—sadness, love. I can still hear her voice saying those words, and they stay with me to this day. It was as though we both knew how hard it would be to let go. It’s a memory I’ll always hold close to my heart.
Though she’s no longer here with us physically, her presence is still very much alive in my thoughts. 
I know we will see each other again one day on the other side of the veil.

I interviewed and wrote this short biography of my grandmother when I was in 2nd grade. She was an awesome grandmother and I miss her. I will always remember this story when I think of her.

So sorry to hear about her passing. She was such a caring and loving person. I missed her when she left the Bay Area. We loved to share her home cooked Chinese food.

We were baptised the same day in Hong Kong and she was a very faithful member in Church.  I still remember when we were working in MIA together in Church. I still have few pictures with her and I would like to share with you.

Our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. Your mother’s kindness and gentle spirit touched so many lives, and her memory will continue to shine through all who knew her. She was a loving grandma, a wonderful mom and a beautiful person inside and out. Though her absence will be deeply felt, her warmth and love will forever live on in your hearts and memories. We are holding your family close in our thoughts and sending all our love and heartfelt sympathy.

My dear Aunt Eliza, I miss you. You were the sunshine to so many. You were one of the most beautiful and kindest souls I ever met. You were the queen of pastel colors of pinks and turquoise and can wear crazy awesome eye shadows that won’t look good on anybody but you. You had wonderful pets (I remember Annie and the grumpy black cat who only loved you!). You were the gatekeeper of your bountiful garden. You saved and nurtured your patients. You participated in humanitarian efforts to save the world through charities like the Smile Train. You brought up a beautiful family. You were the wise wizard and comforter to many. You had a great sense of humor. You were a great aunt (Gu Ma 姑媽) to me 💜
I’m so grateful for all the beautiful experiences  and memories we made together. You’ve always been a touchstone and solid rock of love. Your hugs are the best! You gave me wonderful childhood memories and I’m glad we reconnected in recent years. I wish I had more time with you.  You said you would leave the keys for me when I come to see you next time…
I know you are warmly received in God’s embrace and may you find peace and comfort in the Lord’s Kingdom. Until we meet again 🫶🏻

What a wonderful woman!  I too am sure she was warmly and lovingly greeted by many in the next world!  

I arrived in Hong Kong as a young missionary for the Church in July of 1971, just after Elizabeth and Sheldon were married.  Over the ensuing many years we interacted through touring, jewelry, and especially as Elizabeth accompanied me on Operation Smile surgical mission into China.  What a blessing she was to those families, as she spoke their dialects!
    We will miss her!

Eliza and I had in common the love of flowers and gardening. We would share back-and-forth pictures of our latest blooming flowers and when she came to Washington to visit her daughter Susan  she would visit my garden and we would enjoy the harvest.  

I loved to take pictures and share with her and she would create these sweet messages and send them back to me🌹. Such a WONDERFUL woman with a LOVING spirit!  A DEAR friend who touched my life for the better. I will miss her. I know Heaven is celebrating her arrival home and I am GRATEFUL I was blessed to know and love her❣️
