“My dearest love,” our adored father and grandfather, beloved Mission President, son and brother, patriarch, and our hero, Franklin Lyngby Child, joyfully returned to the waiting arms of his Father in Heaven and his beloved parents on July 21, 2015. Frank was born on December 3, 1935 to Arthur and Edith Child in Salt Lake City. After graduating from East High and attending the University of Utah, he worked for his father as a brick mason, perfecting his craft, and learning the values and skills that would define him for the rest of his life.
Frank was a builder of structures, men and a forever family. He met his eternal sweetheart in the summer of 1952 at the Saltair Resort, and right away he knew she was the one. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple, and together they lived in the home that he built for her and his cherished family in Holladay, Utah. Frank genuinely loved people and everyone loved him in return; and his endless generosity, good-natured sense of humor and gentle spirit touched the heart of those he met. Frank loved life, and partic-ularly riding his bike with his sweetheart, touring around the city on his Harley, and driving his exotic cars; but more than anything, he loved sharing those things with the people around him.
Frank served his Heavenly Father faithfully throughout his life, including as the Bishop of the Holladay Second Ward, the Mission President of the California San Jose Mission, and Stake President of the Holladay Stake. He also served the city that he loved as a member of the Board of Directors at Primary Children’s Medical Center and the Children’s Museum of Utah. As a builder, his fingerprint can be found across the West, from the numerous grand medical facilities and government buildings, to the humble ward building where he lovingly worshiped his Lord and Savior.
Frank is survived by his devoted wife Patricia, children Daniel (Lyn), David (Diane), Wendy, Suzanne (William) and Jennifer (William), and his adored 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Viewing will be held Sunday July 26th, from 6 to 8 pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, located at 3401 S Highland Drive. Viewing prior to services 9:30-10:30 am with Services will be held on Monday, July 27th, 11:00 am, at the Holladay North Stake Center, located at 4395 Albright Drive, Holladay.
