

Harry McKenzie (January 1920 – October 2014). Resident of Salt Lake City, Utah. Harry passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 94. Harry was born Lubbock, Texas and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from East High School and then served around the world for 21 years in the U.S. Navy retiring as a Chief Petty Officer (E-7). Harry then continued his education at the University of Utah, where he graduated with a Banking Certificate and then he worked his way up to being an Operations Manager of the Cash Department at the Salt Lake Federal Reserve Bank where he retired from his second career at the age of 62.
He was one of four children born to John and Ellinor McKenzie and was the husband to Betty Jeane Palmquist who preceded him in death in 1976. Two of Harry’s three sisters (Esther McKenzie and Ruth Chavez) have also passed on and he is survived by his younger sister Shirley Anderson (92).
Harry and Betty Jeane McKenzie have five surviving children; Linda Mullins, Ellinor Carter, John McKenzie, Jeane Rezendes and Scott McKenzie. Harry had 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Harry loved being a Mason and Shriner for the last 50 years and was an avid traveler with several local trailer clubs. Harry was very proud of his support and sponsorship of the local Shriner’s Hospital.
Everyone that met Harry knew him as a character, he will certainly be missed. Harry will be interned at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 after a brief family service.
