Judith Stephenson

Our sweet mother, Judy, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2016. She was born September 13, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Wendell Keith Jones and Phyllis Capener. She spent her childhood in the Sugarhouse area and graduated from Highland High School. She married Philip Lewis Stephenson on July 19, 1969; he was the love of her life. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 27, 1975.

Judy was fortunate to be able to stay at home and raise their children. She served in many capacities for the LDS church. Judy worked at the Lace Place where she was famous for her many homemade creations. After Phil’s death, she worked at the State of Utah in the ITS division. After her retirement she served an LDS church service mission doing family history work which she loved dearly. She loved her grandchildren, yellow roses and family trips to Disneyland.

She is survived by her four children, Stacey (Brian) Roper of South Jordan, UT; Ryan (Peggy) Stephenson of Saratoga Springs, UT; Kelly (Amy) Stephenson of McKinney, TX; and Mary (Jeremy) Bitner of Bluffdale, UT. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren who were the center of her life; 2 sisters, Nancy Hansen of Spartanburg, SC and Susan (Frank) Arnold of SLC, UT; 6 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip; grandson, Justin Roper; brother, Jeff Jones. The family would like to thank the many healthcare providers that lovingly cared for Judy.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at 11:00 am at the East Millcreek Chapel, 2702 Evergreen Ave (3435 South). A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 9th from 6:00-8:00 pm and prior to the funeral from 9:45-10:45 am. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Judy would want you to serve a neighbor or a friend.
