1924 ~ 2011
June Gale Hartman passed away on October 12, 2011. She was born November 16, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Elmer Woodruff Gale and Madge Erickson Gale. June graduated from East High School and LDS Business College. In 1943, June married John Hartman and together they began their grand adventure.
John’s military service and career with Skaggs Drug Stores and American Stores took them to New York, Kentucky, Salt Lake City, Montana, Texas and California. She was a talented homemaker and created many beautiful homes across the country. June, always supportive of her husband, provided a strong foundation for her family wherever they called home.
June enjoyed serving as a volunteer with the Junior League in Great Falls, Dallas, and Salt Lake City, where she made many lifelong friends. She was also a member of the Assistance League of Salt Lake City. We’ll remember June for her great love for her husband, her courage after his death, her wonderful sense of humor and her love of animals (especially her teacup poodles). She was an expert seamstress who sewed John’s first business suits, Holly’s Easter outfits and puppets for the Junior League.
June was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, her sister Shirley Hippen and brother-in-law John Hippen. She is survived by her two sons; Steve Hartman (Susie) of Richmond, Virginia, Lloyd Hartman (Stephanie) of Arlington, Texas; daughter Holly Henriod (Joe), of Salt Lake City, and five grandchildren; Tiffany Hartman, John Hartman, Joe Henriod, Daniel Henriod and Stefanie Hartman Kopek (Chris). She is also survived by her sisters Valerie Miner, Pauline Wardrop (Glenn) and brothers Jay Gale and John Gale (Leah).
We are grateful for the love and support of our many friends during the last few years and especially over June’s final months. A special thanks to the staff at The Wellington Senior Living Center and CareSource for their excellent care. The family wants to express our deep appreciation to Elaine Eyre and Merrillyn Butterfield for their friendship and devotion to June. They have become part of our family.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 15, at 10:00AM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive. (most east part of the cemetery) All are welcome to come. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John and June B. Hartman Endowed Scholarship in the College of Pharmacy, University of Utah Health Sciences, 540 Arapeen Drive, Suite 120, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108.
