Karen B. Cutler passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025 in St. Mark’s Hospital with her devoted husband Roger by her side, after a resilient battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Karen warmed the hearts and brightened the days of every family member, friend, and new acquaintance she met with her radiant smile and musical laugh. Her generous heart and deep love of service was a charm that lifted and blessed all around her. These genuine traits came straight from her heart and people knew that. Caregivers commented that her smile must have been the gift that won her husband’s heart.
Karen was born in Deseret, Utah on June 13, 1943 to Garth and Eleanor Bishop. As a child she loved playing Jacks, marbles, and dancing. She moved to Salt Lake City when her parents relocated for her father’s employment. She graduated from East High School, attended Business School and graduated in Social Work from BYU. After graduation she was employed as a welfare case worker. It was at that time that Karen met Roger, the love of her life... they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 9, 1969 and were happily married for over 57 years.
Karen and Roger were blessed with five children, twenty-one grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Some of Karen’s favorite family times were spent boating with the family at Lake Powell, spending time at the family cabin, cheering for children and grandchildren in their various activities, taking grandchildren on birthday dates, hosting barbecue swim parties, family reunions, and holiday gatherings. Karen was a hard worker and instilled in her children the values of responsibility, hard work, and service.
Karen had a love of learning and spending time in meaningful activities. She enjoyed sewing, baking, crocheting, volunteering, biking, skiing, walking, swimming, gardening, jazzercise, singing, playing the piano, reading, listening to audiobooks, going to plays, trips to St. George, and bird watching. Karen and Roger loved to travel together and enjoyed visiting South America, Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand, and U.S. National Parks. She had a special place in her heart for Germany and the friendships she made as service missionaries with Roger in Frankfurt.
Karen was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and His Gospel. She served as a Relief Society President, a service missionary, and held callings throughout her life. She was always there for anyone and everyone in need. Friends fondly remember receiving baked goods and love notes during the holiday season. Karen always had a treat or a gift ready to drop off to someone who needed a little cheer.
For the last few years of her life, as Parkinson's progressed, Karen continued to enjoy family, friends, walking, and reading. She was able to remain in her home with Roger as he selflessly served Karen with strength, love, and kindness.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Garth and Eleanor Bishop, and her daughter, Christina Bridges. She is survived by her husband, Roger F. Cutler, Jonathan Bridges (Christina’s husband) and their 3 children: Parker, Savannah, and Hunter; Steven (Lissa) and their 4 children Jake (Stephanie), Natalie (Issac), Tysen, and Joseph; Brandon (Emily) and their 8 children: Collin (Camrie), Elise, Carter, Mitchell, Gavin, Beckham, Julia, and Hazel; Darrin (Tara): and their 3 children: Kate, Ben, and Josh; Jason (Heidi) and their 3 children: Jane, Clara, and Ellie. And her 3 great grandchildren: Ava, Nelson, and Maya. Karen is also survived by her siblings: Bryce (Pam) Bishop, Eileen (David) Benton, and Boyd (Elizabeth) Bishop.
