Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Kay Edman, returned to her Heavenly Father peacefully on June 1st, 2020, due to complications from Lewy body dementia. She was surrounded by family.
Kay was born June 2, 1940, in Driggs, Idaho, to George Choules and Ruby Hardy Choules. Kay spent her childhood in Provo and Salt Lake City, Utah. Kay graduated from South High School
and attended the University of Utah. She married her high school sweetheart, Brent Edman in the Salt Lake Temple on April 15, 1960.
Kay’s life was devoted to serving others. Besides raising her family of seven children and four foster children, Kay was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served as Relief Society, Young Women and Primary President, and many other various callings. Brent and Kay presided together over the Georgia Atlanta Mission (1982-1985), the Provo Utah Missionary Training Center (1998-2001) and the Historic Kirtland Visitor Center (2011-2012), as well as serving as service missionaries in the Salt Lake City Inner City mission working with refugees from many countries. Kay also served with her husband in the Jordan River Temple.
Besides official church service, Kay always sought out opportunities to serve others. She spent many years working with at-risk children in Salt Lake Youth Services, in addition to working with special needs children in Jordan School District, Canyons School District, and the Church Education System. Kay found joy in serving and giving to anyone she met who needed a helping hand, many of whom she continued to serve despite her struggle with dementia, and right up until her final days.
Kay is survived by her husband Brent Edman, her children, Tawna (John) Parry, Boyd (Liz) Edman, Kevin (Sonya) Edman, Kent (Diane) Edman, Blaine (Jami) Edman, Marie Lacanienta, 22 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, sister Deanna McMullin, and son Russell.
