Born on November 20, 1947, Lynda grew up in Holladay, Utah, where she built lifelong friendships and developed the love of community that would define her life. She graduated from Olympus High School in 1966 and went on to attend the University of Utah, earning her degree in elementary education in 1971. She met her sweetheart, Brent, and were married on March 27,1970. They were an example of love and devotion for 55 years.
Lynda loved teaching. It was not just her profession—it was her calling. For 27 years, she poured her heart into her work as a 3rd- and 6th-grade teacher at Sunrise Elementary. Her classroom was a place of curiosity, safety, laughter, and love. She shaped countless young lives, leaving a legacy of confidence, kindness, and a belief in the power of learning.
Lynda lived her life with enthusiasm and warmth. She loved to read and could often be found with a book in hand and another waiting on her nightstand. She found joy and freedom skiing the slopes of Alta, one of her favorite places in the world. And she treasured her friendships deeply, each friend becoming like family. Anyone who knew Lynda felt her ability to connect, to listen, and to love without reservation. She enjoyed her retirement, spending time in her favorite places with Brent in Laguna Beach and at their treasured cabin in Island Park, Idaho. You could find her kayaking down the river, walking her dog, Jade, and sitting outside listening to music.
She was an example of charity, serving in many callings and loved spending time in the temple. Where she felt peace and close to her Heavenly Father. Lynda will be remembered for her loving smile, her beautifully handwritten notes and opening her home to many, where all holidays and events were celebrated to the nines. Lynda was happiest when she was with her family and those she loved surrounding her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Brent Johnson; her son, Derek Johnson (wife McKenzie, children Jess and Mack); and her daughter, Lisa Dunsmore (husband Brig, children Alexis and Zac).
