Norma Jean Raleigh Boog Young was born on May 24, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the daughter of Harold James Raleigh and Violet Alice Weidman Raleigh. She passed away on March 11, 2024, of injuries sustained in an accident.
In 1944, after a chance encounter brought them together at Hill Air Force Base, Norma and Bob Lee Boog were married at her uncle’s house, in Logan, Utah. Norma and Bob had five children together; four boys and a girl. They raised their children in Salt Lake City, Bountiful, and Japan.
Bob passed away in June of 2000. A year later, Norma was married to William Gordon Young in the Bountiful Temple. By all accounts, the last 20+ years have been the happiest years of Norma’s life.
Norma spent her childhood and young adult life in Salt Lake City, Utah, graduating from West High School in 1944. She had many jobs throughout her lifetime, but her first job was as a “bond” girl, selling war bonds to support the war effort. She later became a nurse and worked for Dr. Vernon Stevenson (Salt Lake City) and Dr. Nelson Burton (Bountiful) for many decades of her life. Not one to retire, she was also a bookkeeper for a local company—until well into her eighties.
When she wasn’t working, she could be found with her loyal friends having a card game and a laugh together. After she married Gordon, they joined a dance group in Murray, and spent hours on the dance floor together. When they weren’t on the dance floor, they traveled together, both abroad and at home.
Gordon has been a devoted husband and loving caregiver throughout their time together. We will be forever be grateful to him. We would also like to thank the many doctors and nurses who cared for Norma at the Intermountain Medical Center after her accident.
Norma is preceded in death by her first husband, Bob Boog, and three of their sons: Jim, Bruce and Jack. She is also preceded in death by every member of her immediate family including parents, brother, half-brothers, step-mother, half-sister, uncles, aunts, and cousins. She has outlived many of her friends and associates as well. Norma is survived by her steadfast companion and husband, Gordon Young, a daughter, Linda Lund (Victor Lund), a son, Bob Boog Jr. (Sherri), 12 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a beloved niece, Barbara Fenwick.
Norma’s memorial service will be held at Butler West Stake Center, 1845 East 7200 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah, on March 27 at noon. A viewing will take place from 11am until noon. She will be interred in the Bountiful Cemetery.
