Patricia Ann “Pat” Allen passed away unexpectedly at her home in Sandy, UT, August 10, 2021. She was born Jan 24, 1943 to Annie and Ray Allen and raised in Salt Lake along with her two brothers. She had an older brother Harry, and younger brother John. Her brothers loved her dearly and even at a young age, they understood she was the “sibling in charge.”
Pat graduated from Olympus High School in 1961. She then attended the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor of Social Work Degree. After gaining experience in in her field, she went back to U of U to earn her Master of Social Work Degree graduating in 1978. She was tapped for membership in Phi Kappa Phi, an honorary scholastic society based on high achievement in academia. Pat worked for the State of Utah for 38 years and, at the time of retirement in 2004 was a Program Specialist for the Department of Workforce Services.
Pat loved to hike, her favorite place being the Big Cottonwood Canyon, and often talked about hiking to Mary, Martha and Catherine Lakes at Brighton. When the weather turned cold and snowy, she would walk at the Fashion Place Mall with her friend and neighbor, Colleen Hayden. Since shopping was one of Pat’s favorite pastimes, the malls were the perfect place to exercise! Other favorite times were getting together with great friends for lunch, annual tickets for the Salt Lake Opera and Ballet West, and an annual trip with friend, Linda Neilson, to the Utah Shakespearean Festival. A highlight was a tour of Italy, organized by the Shakespearean Festival.
At home, cooking was a favorite hobby; learning about it and practicing in her well-equipped kitchen. The family benefitted from this with her annual Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve Dinners. It was the perfect time to bring family together from the Salt Lake area and out of state.
Pat is survived by her two brothers and their families: Harry (Phyllis) Allen, John (Kathryn) Allen, nephew Dan (also known as Sweetums to Pat), and children Quinton and Jaymee Allen, niece Molly (Cameron) Eck, and niece Melissa (Targee) Williams.
