It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia Hogan Crider, age 82, on January 14, 2025. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her children, grandchild, and great-grandchild.
Our beloved mother was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 19, 1942, to Richard Patrick Hogan and Alverna Elizabeth Harris Hogan. She was raised by her stepfather, Russell and mother, Alverna Cottrell.
Patricia graduated from Granite High School in 1960. Following high school, she attended and completed Hollywood Beauty School in Salt Lake City. She married Jay A. Whitehouse on September 13, 1961. They resided in Tooele, Utah, where they raised 4 beautiful children, but later divorced. While living in Tooele, she worked for Catalina Swimwear as a seamstress. She worked her lifelong career at the Tooele Army Depot as a Heavy Duty Mechanic for 20+ years before she retired in 1993.
After retirement with the Tooele Army Depot, Patricia went back to school to further her education. She attended Salt Lake Community College, earning a degree as a medical transcriptionist. After college, she relocated to Saint George, Utah where she worked at IHC Regional Hospital.
Patricia was an amazing single mother and provider for her children. Whether her children were right or wrong, she stood behind them no matter what. She liked to round and square dance, and enjoyed having her son, Steven Whitehouse take dance lessons with her. She was a cub scout leader, as well as her daughter Tricia Nelson’s softball coach. She enjoyed taking her kids sledding when they were young and was the hero of our family.
Patricia married James R. Crider on July 31, 1998. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the two were sealed for eternity in the Saint George Temple in 2016. While married to James, they enjoyed a life of adventure, traveling in their RV as members of the RV Club and exploring in their side-by-side with their children.
While living in Saint George, she loved to hit all yard sales. She loved crafting with her family when they were together. From toll painting, cross stitching, quilting, ceramics, to making every single special occasion card by hand, Patricia found great joy in crafting. She enjoyed having the opportunities to take her grandchild and great-grandchild to church with her on Sundays.
James later passed away in April 2011. After the passing of her beloved husband, she stayed active, sharing her time between her children, visiting places such as Salt Lake City, Idaho, Colorado, Michigan, and Indiana. In 2019 she sold her home in Saint George, Utah for a new adventure in Battle Creek, Michigan - where her daughters Pamela Whitehouse and Kristi Moore reside. She was very independent while living in Michigan. She took the challenge on effortlessly and learned to navigate a whole new state. In Michigan, she enjoyed joining a ceramics class, going to estate sales, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on the beaches of Lake Michigan.
While in Michigan, Patricia was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. As the disease progressed and she could no longer live alone, she moved in with Kristi, where she finished out her life filled with love and family.
Our loving mother will be greeted in Heaven by her mother, Alverna Cottrell; father, Richard Patrick Hogan; stepfather Russell Cottrell; sister, Joan Barnson; daughter, Pamela Whitehouse; granddaughter, Melissa Whitehouse; and three great-grandchildren; Lee Tinnin, Kora and Naive Ellies.
Patricia will be greatly missed by children; Steve (Janice) Whitehouse, Kristi (Dennis) Moore, Tricia (Dave) Nelson; grandchildren, Heather Beck, Joel DeVaul, Ian Lancaster, Jenniffer Smith, Jacklynn Tinnin, Jessica Clark, Melissa Thornsburg, Matthew Nelson; and her eight great-grandchildren.
