Richard Paul Dunlap passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday June 5, 2016. He was born April 8, 1942 to C. Delwin and Karen L. Sorensen in Denver Colorado. He grew up and graduated from high school in Casper Wyoming. He graduated with a business degree from Westminster College and spent most of his career in the SLC area working for First Security Bank. He considered himself very fortunate to be a part of the Spence Eccles team.
He married Carol Ann Boyles on June 11, 1966. They worked and lived in Murray until her death on July 1, 2001. During those years, they joined a group of “prime time diners” which continues to meet even now. They also organized Super Bowl parties at the Willows. Great friends, great times.
Dick married Susan Chilton on February 4, 2006. Dick immediately joined a large extended family, which became his greatest delight. He loved the children, the young adults, and large family parties.
Dick was an avid sports fan. All baseball season, he cheered for the Yankees. He loved all collegiate sports. March was his favorite month. He knew every team and every mascot, but the University of Utah was by far his favorite. He was a Crimson Club member and season ticket holder since the early 1970’s. Among all the games and championships, a major highlight was having a personal connection to Stevenson Sylvester as his scholarship donor. Sunday dinners, personalized jerseys and traveling with the team took on a whole new joy.
From the time he was a child, Dick loved cars. His pride and joy was a 1997 Mustang Cobra. He loved the roar of the engine and the power of the motor. Dick was an avid golfer, and loved Sunday mornings at Mountain Dell.
He is survived by his brother Douglas (Omaha, NE), wife Susan Chilton, and family; Judge, Katherine, Alexandra and Samantha Evans.
The family is deeply grateful to Summit Hospice (Kim, Hector, Wes and Annette). Throughout his extended illness, his dear friends called, visited and made his days brighter. His eyes would well with tears of gratefulness for each kind act.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Dunlap residence on Saturday June 11 from 2-5 p.m. Parking will be limited. As a courtesy to our neighbors, please carpool and park on the west side of the road only.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the University of Utah Crimson Club in his name.
