I was born June 25, 1933 in Oakley (Spring Basin), Idaho, to Albert and Mauretta (Butler) McIntosh, and passed away in the evening of September 22, 2021. In September of 2020 I was diagnosed once again with cancer. Liver cancer, for the 3rd time, to be exact. After much thought, and advise from my doctors, and loved ones, I decided I was done fighting. A year later, and after 8 battles with cancer, by-pass surgery; and then a heart attack, a stroke, and other health issues, my body was done fighting. You could say that I am like that cat with 9 lives, I guess.
I grew up in the Basin of Oakley, Idaho, in the country, on my parent’s ranch. I have a great love for this area. I learned so much, as I was taught by my parents and three sisters. I learned how to sleep when the wind blew. How to be dependable and honest and to go the extra mile. I learned to work with cattle, horses, and farm machinery. I learned how to make beautiful new things out of old things.
I graduated from Oakley High School in 1951 and then went to BYU for one year. I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Western States mission from 1953-1955. Upon returning from my mission, I married my high school sweetheart, Sue Clark, in 1956, and then we moved to Salt Lake City. One year later we were sealed in the Salt Lake temple. We enjoyed 43 years of marriage while raising our five children. Then she lost her battle with cancer in August of 1999. One of the greatest blessings in our lives was to see our children marry wonderful spouses. To watch them enjoy beautiful marriages and raise amazing children of their own.
Our children are, Clark (Mary Jane), James (Holly), Dale (Kimberly), (his first wife Nellie who passed away in 2018), Todd (Jenny), and Mary (Robert) Muir. We have 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
In the year 2000 I met another wonderful lady, Judy Cox, who has been a devoted companion to me for 21 years. Her husband, Glen Cox, passed away in 1997. She is blessed with 5 children as well. Helene (Kevin) Heywood, Coy (Jossette), Michelle (Robert) Maughan, Glenda (Victor) Kersey, and Andrew (Stephanie). She has 28 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren, with 2 more due in the spring. This made for quite a large family for the two of us. But it has been a wonderful blessing in our lives.
I started working for a construction company, when we moved to Salt Lake, building homes. Then I went to work at Pine Mountain Corporation and was soon asked to be the manager of the business.
For 30 years I did this. But my greatest joy was working along side my father, Albert, for 60 years on our ranch in Oakley, Idaho. Even while working at Pine Mountain I would spend a lot of my time up in Idaho on the ranch. The last 27 of those years, in 1972, I purchased the ranch from my parents, which made it possible for them to retire from farming, and raising cattle, and live on the ranch for the rest of their lives. I also bought my neighbor’s ranch in 1976 and enjoyed ranching for the next 20 years. It was a great experience raising my own family in this environment as well. They learned how to work hard, work together, and help others. I sold the ranch in 1996.
Because of my parents I gained a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and tried my best to help my children gain their own testimonies as well. I was involved in many callings in the church and enjoyed them all in different ways. I have been extremely blessed with many wonderful experiences by the good people that I have met over my life that have become my close friends. I have said many times; “being married to Sue, and Judy, made me the luckiest man in the world. With Sue and our 5 children, and their companions, and Judy’s 5 children with their companions, and with our grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I could not have been more blessed”.
Those who entered Heaven before me are my sweet wife Sue, her brother Don Clark, my parents Albert and Mauretta, my sister Rhetta Jean Jones, and my daughter-in-law Nellie (Dale’s first wife).
I am survived by my dear wife, Judy. My children, their spouses, and our 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Judy’s 28 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren. My two sisters, Nola Christensen and Darlene Limb. And one brother-in-law, Tom Clark.
I want to give a special “Thanks” for the love and service given to me by these wonderful people with hospice. Joelle Chase, Dave Leavitt, Klever Barrezaueta, and Matt Fellows. They made my last days here comfortable and endurable.
My funeral will be held at the church that I have been attending for the past 60 years or more. It will be on Wednesday, September 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the Mountain View 1st Ward, 1400 South 1900 East. There will be a viewing starting at 9:30 AM that same day.
There will also be a viewing on Tuesday evening, September 28th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Millcreek UT, not at the ward.
