

Germano, Arthur on April 16, 2016 of Ridge, N.Y. Beloved husband of Louise. Loving father of Arthur C. and his wife Karen, and Edward F. and his wife Grace. Cherished grandfather of Christopher Edward and his wife Nicole, Jennifer Lynne and her fiance Stephen and Matthew Lincoln. Adored great grandfather of Ryan Christopher.
At the age of 18, Arthur was drafted during World War II and served under General George S. Patton in the Third Army, 35th Infantry Division, 320th Regiment, First Battalion, Company C. Private First Class serving from 1943-1946. He was a veteran of three Campaigns: Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. He received the French “Jubilee of Liberty Medal” for participation in the Normandy Invasion to liberate France during World War II. Among his other commendations was the Bronze Star Medal which he received for meritorious achievement in the "European Theater of Operations, during the North France Campaign". He was a proud member of the “Greatest Generation” and attended the WWII Memorial dedication in Washington, DC. He proudly worked as a member of the American Legion attending many ceremonies and events honoring and helping veterans. He received a Certificate of Appreciation in 1994 as the Legionnaire of the Year for his post.
He went on to be a mail carrier and then a clerk for the United States Postal Service. He worked with the Postal Service until his retirement.
He loved his country, family and friends. A baseball and New York Yankees fan all his life; his favorite player was always Joe DiMaggio who he met on two occasions after Joe retired from the game. It was a thrill of a lifetime for him.
He enjoyed helping others and everyone that knew him always appreciated his willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed. A kind, caring, and decent man that will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Reposing at the O.B. Davis Funeral Home, 1001 Rt. 25a, Miller Place, N.Y. Visitation Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday morning 9 am. at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Rocky Point, N.Y. Interment with honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
