

Chuan was born in Hangzhou, China, on March 1, 1945. At the age of three, she moved to Taiwan with her parents, where she later earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from National Taiwan University in 1966. In 1971, she moved to the United States to further her education and received a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics from Stony Brook University in 1976.
Chuan’s professional career included two years at Intel in California before she joined Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Protein Data Center as a programmer in 1986. She dedicated over two decades to her work before retiring in 2007.
Beyond her career, Chuan found joy in knitting, gardening, and cooking. She took great pride in raising two intelligent and kind daughters and was especially pleased to achieve financial independence after retirement. She overcame the challenges of Sciatica through her commitment to daily gym visits over the past five years, embodying resilience and determination.
She will be remembered as a loving, brave, and accomplished woman who embraced life with grace.
Chuan is survived by her devoted husband, Wu-Tsung Weng; her daughters, Elaine and Helen; her son-in-law, Tom Malley; and her three cherished grandchildren, Connor, Chloe, and Brandon Malley. She is also survived by her beloved siblings, Hong-Yin Yang, Nan-Jen Yang, En-Tsi Yang, and Pu Yang.
