I am so sorry to hear this news. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I met Captain Donald Fromm at PJ Ferry from 2007 to 2011. I always remember his ever smiling face. RIP.

Sad to hear of Donny passing, but so blessed to have known him. It was always a delight to pilot with him on the Connecticut River in the 80s and such a joy to reconnect at Thames Shipyard so many years later.

Donny was one of the good guys of Napeague and was my first friend I met in summer of 1963.
Donny taught me how to fish, since every chance he got he was going fishing either at the creek or on The Flying Dutchman.
The water was Donny's passion in life. We all know that, that love meant the world to him, as much as his beautiful family and friends.

I met Donny while working a construction job at the Port Jefferson ferry terminal where he was the Port Captain.
Within the first ten minutes of conversation I knew we would become friends, Donny was an old school mariner and our conversations always drifted to stories of the “could you imagine I did that with that boat” categorie .   

Another thing about Don, was his humor the look in his face told you there was always a comment in the tube waiting for the right moment or situation to come out. 
I spoke to Donny shortly before his passing , while I can’t print exactly what he said for censorship reasons, trust me it was hilarious.

My condolences to Mikey and the rest of the Fromm family, Donny will be missed in our maritime community by many people that you will not see at the funeral, but be assured we are all talking about him today and thinking about him.
RIP Don fair tide and following seas brother.

Lorraine and family we were so sad to here of dons passing we always had a great time when we were with you both. Don was such a nice guy we always had laughs and cherished our times together. Don was such great guy easy to talk to and always loved talking about his family. He will be missed beyond belief. We will deeply miss Donny but we will never forget him. God got a good one. We are hurt deeply. RIP 

I will always remember Captain Donny Fromm, a great man who will be missed by all. For me the weeks before deer season will because of the stories we would tell each other of last seasons hunt and the plans of this years trip. Capt  Fromm -May The Wind Be Always At Your Back. May The Sun Shine Warm Upon Your Face;The Rains Fall Soft Upon Your Fields And Until We Meet Again, May God Hold You In The Palm Of His Hand... .. 

This was NOT what we planned while we soaked. From the apple farm to every other lame brain thought we would have he will ALWAYS remain in my heart and in my soul. I don't think I need to say what a (only) friend and neighbor he has been and when needed we could always count on Donny. Will NEVER forget when I first met Donny he came over to welcome our family to the neighborhood that and a few hot dogs later the rest is history. No one will understand the great respect that comes to grow with friends and neighbors but I am not ashamed to say I LOVED THE GUY.  Captain until we meet again, Sail in Peace.

Dear Fromm family and friends, I am so very sorry to hear of Don's passing. I had the extreme pleasure of knowing him and working with him in my many years of Coast Guard service. Don was a stand-out "port partner" in the maritime transportation system in every sense of the word.  An unequivocal professional and a "go-to" guy... you could count on Don to give you the "right and good" information and guidance. INVALUABLE input always; willing and ready to support the "common good" of the maritime community.  We were blessed to have Don Fromm in our corner and certainly he will continue to be there putting in a strong recommendation to "those in charge upstairs" in all our best interests. Dear Lorraine - you and Donny were the best part of my life in Shoreham all those years ago...you shared your hearts and your home and your kids....to this day I can see and hear Donny on your front porch as I was learning to drive a 5-speed.  He was yelling "shift, shift!"  You two even took me to the drive-in, tucking me in between Bryan and Daniele before Michael was born...I am so sorry that I am not geographically closer so I could share time with you now.   Joe and I were just the other day looking at the album that included a card from when you two came to CT for the party when I became State's Attorney. We loved and adored our wonderful friend with all of our hearts. Many wonderful memories with Donny and his beautiful wife, dinners, trips, watching them become grandparents what an amazing man to be blessed with an amazing family. His sense of humor and love of life made him even more lovable. You will forever be in our hearts Donny we hear your laughter and feel your love. RIP our dear friend till we meet again.

The Napeague Camping Club was a better place because of Donny. We will miss his love for the simple pleasures in life - family, friends and a sunny day.

I am sorry for your loss, especially since it was so sudden and right before his favorite time of year.  Donny was a great friend and a true leader to me and everyone he worked with.  
I will always remember discussing the annual battle concerning the clamming contest.  A proud moment of every summer.  He always winked when he won!  I never asked.
Unfortunately, I have other obligations this week and I will not be able to attend in person but I just want you know that my visits to Port Jeff will never be the same.  He was my go to guy for everything as I assume he was to all of you.   So sorry.
