Michael was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Ingrid, when they were teenagers and they married on May 31, 1969. Their union of 56 years produced five children and Michael was not only a steadfast husband and devoted father, but the proudest Opa of his seven grandchildren. He retired at 69, turning his attention to the pursuit of his many interests and hobbies, as well as spending time at his second home on the Potomac River in West Virginia. There, he loved boating and relaxing on the deck with his dogs, Sugaree and Snow. He also enjoyed traveling, including with a group from his church, and his last trip in September was a fun cruise to Bermuda.

Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Kelsie, Olivia, Colin, Aidan, Krista, Evan and Isla. He additionally leaves behind his sister, Kathi Hanrahan, and brother, Tim Hanrahan (Donna).
A man of deep Christian faith, Michael moved through the world with kindness, compassion, good humor, and endless curiosity. He believed in hard work, personal responsibility, and giving back. He raised his children on these values, balancing high expectations with gentle, unwavering support. He loved books, music, a well-balanced ledger, good jokes, college sports, his swimming pool, ice-cream, and trains. We will miss him so much, but know he’s still with us.
