Affectionately known to many as Deac, Patty, Pop, and Honey, Patrick C. Gerace passed away peacefully, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of faith, love, and service.
Patrick shared 60 glorious years of marriage with his beloved wife, Irene, a partnership built on devotion, laughter, and unshakable faith. Together they raised a loving family—Brian Barrett (Linda), Gina Rose (Richard), Charles Gerace (Lesley), and Lenore Sabella (Mike)—who will forever cherish his wisdom, strength, and humor. Patrick was the proud grandfather of 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his loving sister, Marguerite.
Patrick dedicated his life to serving others. He spent 20 years with the NYPD, the majority of his service spent with the Emergency Services Unit, where his courage and compassion touched countless lives. Following his retirement from the NYPD, he continued his mission of service as a Deacon for 38 years, ministering at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church in Shoreham and Infant Jesus Church in Port Jefferson. His calling extended beyond the pulpit—he was deeply involved with Hope House Ministries for over 35 years, where he guided individuals through recovery as a drug and alcohol counselor. Patrick was also the founding director of Pax Christi Hospitality as well as the founding director of Monfort Therapeutic Residence, a program his son continues to lead—an enduring testament to Patrick’s vision and compassion.
Outside of his many ministries, Patrick found joy in life’s simple pleasures—smoking a good cigar, tending to his garden, and sharing lively conversations about politics. A proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Rocky Point chapter, he also found fellowship and strength through Cursillo and the St. Mark’s Men’s Group.
To those who knew him, Patrick was more than a husband, father, and deacon—he was a mentor, a friend, and a beacon of faith. His wit, love, courage, resilience, and unwavering belief in God left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Patrick had a rare gift for making every person feel like family and for reminding others of their worth and purpose.
His life was a living sermon—one of compassion, integrity, and boundless love. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy continues through the countless lives he inspired and the family he so dearly loved.
