eldest of four children, Josefina(deceased), Antonio, and Pepé who currently reside in Spain.
Rafael immigrated to the United States in 1960 aboard the Swedish merchant ship Fylgia, working on the engine room’s electrical components. In that same year, he met his lifelong true love, Alice Mosquera. They were married on April 30, 1961 and shared many adventures for the next 61 years.
Rafael began work in the United States at Jewish Memorial Hospital, Gotham Hotel, and Rheingold brewery. He was a member of IBEW. When moving to Long Island in 1976, he spent more than 20 years working at Brookhaven National Laboratory as an electrician until his retirement. Rafael was very mechanically adept. He was not only a talented electrician, but always found solutions to any problem. He was the go-to person to fix just about anything.
Rafael was always very active, enthusiastic, and energetic. He enjoyed swimming, waterskiing, dancing,
biking, making paella, and any chance to be outdoors. When Rafael was not working, he could be found
on his boat, aptly named Valencia, in homage to his heritage. He rarely went anywhere without his cooler
full of appetizers and cocktails.
Rafael is survived by his loving wife, Alice. He was an adoring and devoted father to his daughters Alice
Jimenez-Costantini (predeceased), Deanna Jimenez ten Hoopen, and son Ralph Jimenez. Rafael is a
beloved grandfather of seven grandchildren, Justin, Nicholas, Lauren, Alana, Brandon, Ava, and Luke and
one great grandchild, Mason.
Rafael was a loving patriarch and friend whose wisdom, humor, laughter, generosity, and warmth will be
missed by all.
