Sherolyn Elizabeth Riley of Rocky Point, NY, passed away unexpectedly on June 18th, 2022, in her home. She is survived by her daughter Katherine Elizabeth Riley, son John Prince Riley III, daughter-in-law Stefanie Ann Riley, granddaughter Avia Ann Riley and grandson John Prince Riley IIII. She is predeceased by her mother Christina Lindsay, sister Sophronia “Kandy” Lindsay, brother Eric “Red” Lindsay, niece Shera “TooT” Lindsay, great nephew Robert (Man Man) Green Jr., niece Stephanie Nowlin, and niece Erika Shipp.
Sherolyn was born in Philadelphia, PA, on December 13th, 1945. After recovering from Alcoholism in
1982, she went on to earn her Master's Degree in Social Work in 1985 from Stony Brook University in
NY. Sherolyn started her career with Riverhead Correctional Facility in 1985. She set the tone on what it
means to help incarcerated inmates become rehabilitated by her way of connecting with them through
her authenticity, directness, and above all, LOVE for their well-being and success in life. Her impact
would be felt by all that came associated with her.
Her impact was also felt by the officers in the jail and their children through education, counseling, and
career goals guidance. She was honored by the Suffolk County Bronze Shields for being a significant
component of the most successful transition program in the United States called RE-ROUT, which
encourages anyone who might be incarcerated and/or threatened with incarnation to choose a socially
acceptable and productive lifestyle.
Because of her dynamic way of speaking and unique way of connecting with well over 10,000 clients
directly or indirectly, she was invited to Sweden to speak with Inmates there, and in 1997 Sherolyn was
presented with the Certificate of Congressional Recognition for her outstanding work.
Sherolyn became a professor at Suffolk Community College in NY, working with first-year students and
helping them prepare for their young careers. Her impact was felt instantly by any student that took her
class, and word quickly spread that she was the class students wanted to sign up to attend. Her impact
was so strong that even after she retired, students still wrote to her and thanked her for all the direction
she provided them and for changing their lives forever.
Those who were blessed to know Sherolyn know her spiritual foundation was always her theme in all
areas of her life. The Love she had for GOD allowed her to do amazing things in her life and for others.
Her Love for GOD got her through her darkest days, and she shared that faith with every inmate and
person she came in contact with.
