On Friday, October 2, 2020, Sylvia E.(Thomas) Maxwell, age 90, of McCandless, formerly of Millvale, died peacefully. Sylvia was the loving mother of Charles (Kristy) Maxwell of Porter, Indiana; and Diane (Thomas) Forrest of Ben Avon. She was the best grams to Lisa, Chuck, Tommy, and John; and great-grandmother to Will, Bob, Ella, Juliet and Chaz. Sylvia is survived by her loving sister Nancy (Carl “Jess” (dec.)) Geyer and sisters-in-law Beverly and Nancy Thomas. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Stephen, Edward, Andrew, Richard, Robert, James; and four sisters, Elsie, Dorothy, Marie, and Emily. She will be remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia worked for the H.J. Heinz company for many years, supporting her children as a single mother. When she was not working and raising her children, Sylvia was cheering on her Pittsburgh Steelers. She loved Elvis, mystery novels, and the Wizard of Oz. Christmas Eves at her home were always full of laughter and love. She made the best pies with the flakiest crusts. She loved her family and was always ready for a phone call or a visit.
There will be a prayer service on Friday, October 9 at 12 PM at Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
