Mary Alice Girardo was born July 19, 1932, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and went home to the Lord on April 2, 2024, in Gardnerville, Nevada. She moved to Los Angeles in 1940. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monty Girardo, and daughter Margie Minter. She is survived by daughter Felicia Archer, son-in-law Wayne, son-in-law Mike Minter, grandchildren Wayne, Madeline, Mariah, Luke, Amanda and John, great grandchildren Austin, Makenna and Delilah, and Mary’s sister Alberta.
Sometimes known as Nana Fairy, Mary was gifted at parenting children, including her two daughters, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and hundreds of others she loved like her own and helped raise. She opened her own daycare business in the 1970s and spent 17 years caring for children in Simi Valley, California, before her retirement. She also fostered children and served as a “cool home mother,” providing shelter and care to children in crisis events.
She was a proud cancer survivor of 40 years who traveled and shopped with her dear friend Ginny. She made a new life in Temecula, California, to be closer to family, where she and her sister Lynda enjoyed each other’s company immensely on their outings for a meal and movie. There she also made dear friends Richard, Eva, Shawna and Ira who became her family and whose comfort, care and love blessed her. She filled her 91 years with the joy of family. Her legacy lives on in us all.
In Gardnerville, her son-in-law Wayne took care of her every need, and from Texas, her son-in-law Mike provided the answer to the most important question on her mind every day, “How are my babies?”
