Joan Elaine Abbott

2 April, 1944 – 29 December, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

Sunset & Kapala-Glodek Funeral Home and Sunset Cemetery

Joan Elaine Abbott, of St Louis Park, Minnesota passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the age of 80. She was born April 2, 1944 in Minneapolis.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and Arthur Abbott; and her brother, Hank.

She is survived by her partner, Karen Roehl; and her 4th Akita rescue, Mia.

Joan grew up in Mounds View, and graduated from Mounds View H.S. in 1962, where she was voted "Most Athletic" in her class.

Joan was a hands-on learner, from silk-screening to electrical contracting to home remodeling. She was dedicated and loyal to all of her customers, many of whom became close friends. Joan was the first female to be accepted in the Electrical Contractors Union. After many years as an electrician, she grew interested in expanding her skills and home remodeling seemed ideal. Joan dedicated her time and skills to making others enjoy their homes and yards. She retired in 2022, to the dismay of her customers.

Joan took pride in donating to many animal and human charities. In accordance with her wishes, no funeral service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2025 in Joan & Karen's beautiful backyard.

In Joan's memory, contributions to the Wild Cat Sanctuary in Sandstone, MN, the Clinton County Humane Society in Wilmington, OH, and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital are welcomed.
