It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Colin Geoffrey Northop. He departed this life peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the age of 85. Colin was born on August 5, 1939, in Mission, B.C., to Geoffrey and Joyce Northop.
Colin was a dedicated husband to Bernice, his loving wife of 67 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Maynard (Carolyn), Lorne (Gina), & Lisa (Craig), his 12 grandchildren, as well as 11 great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Linda (Jim), Edna (Adrian), and Phillip (Elaine). He was predeceased by his parents, his son Shawn, and his brothers, Mike and Allan.
As a teenager, he worked in an automotive garage in Silverdale. He then moved on to helping fight wildfires.
In 1958, Colin married his high school sweetheart, Bernice. They moved to Alberta, where Colin worked on the oil rigs for a number of years. In this time, they had three precious boys.
In 1963, they moved back to Mission, B.C., and Colin started his career at Stave Lake Cedar Mill. He worked there for 58 years, and worked his way up. As management, he employed and helped many people so that they could support and provide for their families. He knew the mill inside and out, and could fix absolutely anything. He was exceedingly skilled in many areas.
In 1971, Colin and Bernice were pleasantly surprised by the arrival of their baby girl, and their family was complete.
Colin was known for his humorous and cheeky side. He was a “fan favourite” of many folks, most recently being the waitresses at the Carrington House. He would light up around others, was endlessly friendly and playful, and loved to joke. Children and dogs gravitated towards Colin. They could feel his kind heart and always wanted his time, attention, and love.
Colin enjoyed fishing in his younger years, tinkering on vehicles, camping, and spending time with family. He also loved watching hockey and WWF. When watching wrestling, it seemed like he himself was in the ring.
Colin will be dearly missed by all that knew him. His family was his pride and joy, and he showed them unconditional love. He was a hardworking family man. He was someone you could count on, and would never hesitate to help anyone in need.
A celebration of life will be held in his memory at a later date.
