To his final day, Daniel William George (Danny) Virtue was a fighter. He battled lung cancer and heart disease for four years the way he lived every day of his life – straight ahead and without fear – before passing at his home on the family ranch in Mission, B.C. on September 4th, 2025.
Danny’s fierce determination and concern for others defined his life. He was born in Vancouver in 1949 and learned to make the most of his natural gifts: innate intelligence, remarkable athletic talent and toughness, and a love for animals and adventure. He left home at 14 to work with a travelling circus, beginning a 60-year journey as a performer and producer, animal trainer and actor, stunt man, stunt coordinator and head of the Virtue Studio Ranch. Over the course of his award-winning career, Danny worked behind or in front of the camera on hundreds of movies and TV shows, partnered with the biggest stars in Hollywood, and helped a long list of stunt performers, actors and technical professionals advance in the industry.
Danny’s high-profile successes could not overshadow his tireless work away from the spotlight. He maintained a lifelong connection to Vancouver’s East End Boys Club, as mentor and role model to countless teenagers. He established The Virtue Foundation to provide support to people struggling through physical or mental challenges. He earned numerous awards for his philanthropic work, including the Peter Ustinov Humanitarian Award in 1993 and the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025.
Danny was a dedicated partner for more than 50 years to his wife, Charlotte, who had his love, trust, and respect throughout their lives together. He treasured his time working closely in the stunt business with their sons: Marshall and Clay, who followed their father into the industry. Danny shared a special sense of pride and deep love for his grandchildren – Clay and Sarah’s son Kai, and Marshall’s sons Leo and Felix. He is also survived by his sister, Diane and son Darryl. Danny lived with a never-forgotten devotion to his late parents: Cliff, who everyone knew as “Big Train” and May, the kindest person he ever knew.
The Virtue family would like to thank the many friends and medical professionals who provided support, guidance, and comfort throughout Danny’s illness.
The Memorial for Daniel (Danny) William George Virtue will be held on Sunday, October 19th at 2:00 PM in the West Ballroom of the Vancouver Convention Centre (1055 Canada Place, Vancouver, BC).
We kindly ask guests to arrive on time. Appropriate attire requested.
