Born in Vancouver 96 years ago, Edith (Anthony) Allan quietly passed away in Mission, BC with her son, Kim and daughter-in-law, Lynn, by her side. Edith grew up at 871 Whitchurch St. in North Vancouver and spent the next 87 years at various residences there. Edith was a chatty, fun loving young lady who smiled easily. Her grade 12 yearbook in 1941 summed it up: “Edith’s a mischief as good as they come, goes to our school cause it gives her some fun”. She would chuckle when recounting how the kids from North Vancouver were seen as ‘kids from the hills’ by those in Vancouver. Edith loved sports. She was a star on the grass hockey team and played on the badminton and swim teams as well as cross country skiing and travel. Edith had fond memories of her years working as a young adult in the 1940s. Her first job was at a downtown bank alongside good friend, Mort. She had a large circle of friends and spent many a weekend together at the cabin on Hollyburn Mtn. and popular West Vancouver beaches. Edith loved a good time and made many friends she stayed loyal to for her entire lifetime as showcased in the photo albums she made. It is a treasure trove for us to look through and smile at the life she lived. Her 30s brought marriage and a dedication to raising her two beloved sons, Mark and Kim. Edith moved to Mission in 2011 to be closer to family finally moving into the Residence in Mission this July. Edith outlived in years all of her original family. She was pre-deceased by parents Cyril and Edith Anthony, her only sibling younger brother Sid Anthony and grandson Ross Allan. She is survived by sons Mark (Kimberley) and Kim (Lynn), grandchildren Erin Hughes and Perry Allan and great-grandchildren Jacob Hughes and Amy Allan plus her nephews and nieces. Edith will be remembered for her sense of humour, her pleasantness with people and her sacrifices for her children as a single parent. Edith’s ashes will be interred at a later date at the Mission Hatzic Cemetery next to her grandson, Ross.
