The reunion with her mom and husband of 66 years was long overdue, so Evelyn “June” Bain dusted off her walking shoes, and spread her wings of freedom on May 16, 2018. We can picture it now – Ed with the racing forms and June with her cross-stitch - each in their own lazy boy chair - working through the crossword puzzle together. Her mom in the kitchen preparing a meal that fills her tummy and makes her heart happy. She is home once again.
Born June 16, 1924 in Rouleau Saskatchewan to Alfred and Florence Hollingdale, Aunt June (as she was known to many – related or not!) moved to New Westminster with her mom in the late 30’s. After her time serving in the Army, June married Edwin Bain and worked almost 40 years at Rollins Machinery. With no kids of her own, her niece Iris Grogan became her honorary daughter and after the loss of her beloved Eddie her last three years were spent creating even more memories with her and her daughter Shelley. She is predeceased by her parents Alfred and Sarah Florence, her husband Edwin Bain, her sisters Elsie, Louisa and Iris and brothers Alfie, and George. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
Her service will be held at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home at 11 am Saturday May 19 followed by a gravesite ceremony at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Maple Ridge Community Services in support of their seniors program would bring a smile to June’s face. www.comservice.bc.ca
