It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dale (Gordon) Hyams, who left us on August 20, 2025, at the age of 76. Dale was born (May 29th, 1949) and raised in North Vancouver. He raised his family in Fleetwood (Surrey) through the 80’s and 90’s and for the past 22 years made his home in Mission, BC.
Dale will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50+ years, Connie; his children Hilary (Gianni), Erica (Brent), and Scott (Stefanie), and his cherished grandchildren: Matteo, Niko, Annika, Alyssa, Kelsey, John, and Luke.
Dale spent more than four decades as a dedicated heavy equipment owner-operator, working primarily in the forestry industry. His hard work and commitment to his trade left a lasting mark by building many parts of the road network in the Capilano, Seymour and Coquitlam water sheds as well many forestry roads around Stave Lake and Mission. His workmanship was impeccable and he was respected by many in the industry over the years.
Dale was an avid traveler and outdoorsman exploring all over the world in his younger years before introducing his children to the outdoors with many, many camping and canoeing trips around BC. He was well known for taking the family on a ‘short hike’ that would conclude many hours and many kilometers later. It was not an uncommon event for Dale to follow an old gravel road just to ‘see where it goes’.
In retirement, Dale continued his love of the outdoors with less hiking and more side-by-siding. He found joy in camping with his family, exploring the wilderness, gardening, and woodworking. His love for nature and hands-on craftsmanship reflected his adventurous and creative spirit.
Dale will be remembered for his love of family, his get-it-done attitude, and the way he could never sit still, always keeping busy with projects interrupted regularly by adventures. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
