It is with great sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of Loretta Josephine Rondquist, who died on August 26, 2026, at the age of 86.
Loretta lived a full, remarkable life. She was strong, spirited, endlessly curious, and deeply loved by the many people whose lives she touched. She had friends and family all over the world, and it seemed there was always someone stopping by her door for a visit, a conversation, a cup of coffee, or simply to spend a little time with her.
A lifelong lover of horses, Loretta spent many years raising, riding, and showing them. She passed that love on to her daughters, grandchildren and many others, creating memories and traditions that will live on for generations. She was happiest when she was busy—gardening, caring for children and animals, tending to her beautiful farm, practicing yoga, hosting a party, or working on one of her many creative projects.
Loretta was wonderfully artistic and loved writing, painting, baking, sewing and making things with her hands. She was also a lifelong learner and had a remarkable ability to remember and record the details of life. She kept records of everything, preserving family stories, memories, and moments that might otherwise have been forgotten. She volunteered her time and talent to various organizations including the Mission Horse Club, Brownies, The Ruskin Hall and Sons of Norway.
Above all, Loretta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a special gift for making ordinary moments feel extraordinary. She made life more beautiful, more interesting, and more fun simply by being in it. Her strength, generosity, creativity, and tremendous love for life will remain with her family and friends forever.
Loretta is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Conrad Rondquist; her siblings Clara, Norman and Jackie Engh (predeceased by her brother Lenard Engh), her three daughters, Kelly Pahl (Gary), Kristi Rondquist (Paul Buttle), and Kim Rondquist; her seven grandchildren, Fred, Brittany, Shaina, Dustin, Kurtis, Makenna, and Vinnie; and her six great-grandsons, Vasco, Konraad, Wyatt, Kaden, Luke, and Gordon, with another great-grandchild lovingly expected in January.
She leaves behind a family who adored her, countless friends, and a lifetime of memories that will continue to be shared for generations to come.
A celebration of Loretta’s life and funeral service will be held in the spring, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in Loretta’s memory may be made to The Mission Hospice Society.
Loretta lived life fully—and she made the lives of those around her fuller, too.
