Matilda “Tillie” May Grant (née Adams) was born in Welland, Ontario on March 31, 1933 and passed away in her 93rd year on August 22, 2025, surrounded by family at her home in Mission, British Columbia.
Tillie was born to the late Sidney and Maggie Adams and grew up with siblings: Margaret (Julien “Coobie” Adamcryck and Tom Wallis), Jean Hopkins (Alan), Shirley Veltri (Orlie), Ann Coles (Ron), Mary Cote (Gerry), Norene Jolin (Nap), Lillian Tonita (Chris), Elizabeth Adams, Frank Adams, John Adams (Lena), Sidney Adams (Barbara), and Arthur Adams. All of her siblings have preceded her in passing, and she joins them in eternal rest.
She was the treasured wife of the late Angus Freeman Grant, who shared with her a life filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories. Survived by her two children, Diana Armstrong (Randy) and David Angus (Thérèse). Tillie was blessed by David’s devoted care and support throughout her final years.
Her great joys were her grandchildren—Debbie (Bryan), Carina (Phil), Elizabeth, Jennifer, Jamie Angus (Cam), David Adam, and Laura May—and her great-grandchildren—Matthew, Blake, Jade Thi, Samantha Thi, and Ethan Angus Freeman—who brought her endless pride and happiness.
Tillie was a lifelong, passionate fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, enjoying televised ball games and the excitement of spring training in Florida. In retirement, she and Angus embraced adventures—square dancing, casino trips, boating the Great Lakes, snowbirding in Florida, and spending summers at their log cabin in Northern Ontario. She delighted in playing Bingo and card games like Bridge and Pay the Man, especially with her grandchildren. She later learned to use the computer to connect with family and play card games online.
Not one to sit idle, she spent countless hours knitting cozy slippers and blankets for loved ones. Her home was a vibrant celebration of colour, flowers, and holiday cheer—especially at Christmas, when every corner glowed with decorations and festive spirit. Hummingbirds were regular visitors, tended with her gentle care. Most of all, she loved time spent with family and friends, sharing stories and memories, her humour and lively spirit enchanting all who listened.
In keeping with Tillie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life event was held on the day of her passing.
