Predeceased by Violet, his best friend and beloved wife of sixty years, he is lovingly remembered by his children Wendy (Rob), Kelly (Len) and Jacquie; grandchildren Jordon (Desiree), Keegan (Barbara), Braydon (Nicole), Gavin, Bethany (David), and step-grandchildren Jennifer and Katie (Aaron); great grandchildren Donald, Elora, Norman, Alba, Destini, Bruce, Olivia, Jase, Barrett, Leo, and Rory; sisters-in-law Jackie, and Lila (Gerald); brother-in-law Charles, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who were like family.
He was predeceased by his parents Duke and Alice, brothers Murray, Gordon (Leita) and David, sisters-in-law Rose, and Lillian (Austin).
Norman was born in the Mission Hospital and raised in the Silverdale area. Once married, he and Vi lived in Mission for about eleven years before moving back to the area, buying a home in Silverhill in the late ‘70s, where he resided for the rest of his days.
At the age of 15, he began his lifelong career in logging. Seventeen years later, H & C Logging was born. Norm and Chuck successfully ran their business for thirty-seven years, working in a variety of different areas in the Fraser Valley and along the West Coast, before spending many years as contractors for the Mission Tree Farm prior to selling the business and “retiring”.
Norm was actively involved in his church, spending many years as a board member, usher, bus driver and singing in the choir. He would often lead the song service and loved to sing all types of songs, from silly ditties to old time hymns.
Norm was an avid bowler playing on both men’s, and mixed leagues with Vi, sometimes twice a week for many years, earning a room full of trophies along the way.
Norman will be remembered for his quiet strength, his generous spirit and the deep love he shared with those closest to him. His steady presence, kind heart and unwavering support made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He was devoted to his family and especially loved his role as Papa and Great-Papa. He enjoyed entertaining the little ones and acted as a guide and mentor sharing his strong work ethic and honesty by example.
A celebration of life will be held at River Valley Church, Mission, B.C. on Saturday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a memorial tribute, the family requests donations to the River Valley Church, Mission, B.C,
