Mac was born in Petoskey, Michigan, U.S. on Nov. 20, 1950. During his years in Michigan, he was also known as Bobby. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a crew man, and a diesel mechanic on the ships. At the age of 27, Mac was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii where he met 40-year-old Bonnie who was on vacation in Waikiki. It was “love at first site” and they both still tell that story with a twinkle in their eyes 47 years later. When Bonnie went back to Canada after her two-week vacation, another two weeks passed and she returned to Waikiki. Most people on vacation will bring back a t-shirt or a tin of Macadamia nuts, but Bonnie brought back her soul mate! The rest is history!
Mac left the Navy and relocated to Canada. They were married on July 20th, 1979. These two treated each other with so much love and respect right to the time of Mac’s passing. During Mac’s life in Canada, he worked as the green’s keeper for Pitt Meadows Golf Course. He also worked in the mill industry for some years and provided security for Gateway Casino in Langley, B.C. until his retirement.
Mac was a kind, gentle man, and a devoted loyal husband to Bonnie for 47 years, supporting her love of music, singing with the Harmony Five and playing guitar. Even though Bonnie has been in declining health for the last few years, Mac adored her and cared for her with patience and love. Mac was an avid moose hunter, venturing into the backwoods with his buddy Walley, and was also a member of the Mission Lions’ Club. He will be remembered as a very loved and wonderfully fun grandpa to Travis, Tyler, Breanna and Dayten.
Mac will be dearly missed by his soul mate Bonnie, stepdaughter Barb and husband Rod, the grandchildren and many friends and extended family both here and in the United States.
