Ronald Floyd Wakely

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Floyd Wakely, who passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, at 6:11 a.m. at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, British Columbia, at the age of 88.

Ron was born on December 23, 1937, in Vernon, British Columbia. He lived a life filled with curiosity, determination, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities. Although he spent many years as a hairdresser, he was never one to be defined by a single occupation. Throughout his life he also tried his hand at construction, truck driving, farming, and investing, always looking for new challenges and experiences.

Music was one of Ron's lifelong passions. In his younger years he played the saxophone with the band The Stripes, and he also enjoyed playing the harmonica. Whether performing with others or simply enjoying music, it remained an important part of who he was throughout his life and ultimately inspired his son, Adam, to pursue his own long musical journey.

Ron also found enjoyment in gardening, trying his luck at gambling, investing, and spending time pursuing the interests that brought him happiness. He approached life with independence and self-determination, always choosing his own path.

Above all else, Ron treasured his family. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Darliene Wakely (née Seime); his children Edward Weir-Wakely, Dena Wakely (Mark), Aaron Wakely (Pamela), and Adam Wakely (Jenny); his grandchildren Andrew, Krista, Leanne, Sarah, Nathaniel, Jonathan, Mantis, Quinn, Tela, and Shawn; as well as numerous great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory. He is also lovingly remembered by the family of his late son, Steven Weir-Wakely, including Steven's wife Annette and her children, who held a special place in Ron's heart and remain an important part of the Wakely family.

In addition to his beloved son, Steven Weir-Wakely, Ron was predeceased by his grandson Michael Wakely; his daughter-in-law Trish Wakely (née Hoy); his mother Anne Passmore (née Baresco); his father Anton Wakely (born Worobo); and his brother Donald Worobo.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, staff, and volunteers at Christine Morrison Hospice for the exceptional compassion, dignity, and care they provided during Ron's final days. Their kindness brought great comfort to both Ron and his family.

Ron will be remembered for his love of music, his adventurous spirit, his resilience, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in his family and in the lives he touched throughout his 88 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests that donations be made in Ron's memory to the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission or to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation, causes that were meaningful to him and his family.
