Adan “Sonny” Rosa, III, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, godfather, and teacher, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at the tender age of 53.
Born November 30, 1967, in McAllen, TX to Adan Rosa, Jr. and Alicia Garza Rosa, Sonny was a 30-year veteran band director at McAllen High School, where he student taught and started his teaching career in its entirety. He touched the lives of thousands of students over the course of time. Sonny was the percussion instructor of the McHi Band Drumline. He was also the director for McHi’s steel band, Pan O’ Steel. He conducted the symphonic band, a few times, as well. He was an ideal team teacher and assisted at Morris MS, Travis MS, and Brown MS. He loved teaching so much. He taught classes at UTRGV and STC for a few semesters and touched many students’ lives there as well. Sonny was also a proud member of Sky Ryders Drum Corps during his college days. He was also an avid tennis player.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Adan Rosa Jr. and Alicia Garza Rosa and grandparents.
Sonny is survived by his wife and best friend, Belinda Villarreal Rosa, of 26 years, and 2 daughters, Kathryn Denise and Victoria Alexis who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers, Ariel Alberto (Christy) Rosa and Adrian Aaron (Yolanda) Rosa.
He was beloved immensely by his family, his sisters-in-law, his mother-in-law, nephews and nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles, godchildren, and his students.
Family will receive friends Monday, September 20, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission, TX from 3-8 p.m.; Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 3-9 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with a rosary both nights at 7 p.m. The funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission, TX. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, TX.
