MISSION- Donald Laverne Handeland, 82, left to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at McAllen Heart Hospital. He was born to Clarence and Clara Amanda Handeland on June 23, 1937 in Radcliffe, Iowa. Donald honorably served four years in the US Navy. He was also an Iowa Highway Patrolman and went on to serve 16 years as a police office in West Chicago. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife: Donna Handeland; his daughter: Cindy (Troy) Hunt; grandchildren: Vicky Carpenter, Tracy Johnson, Kelly Olson, Radney Craine and 11 great-grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his sister: Clarisse (Mike) Lerraaen; nieces and nephews: Al & Mary Lerraaen, Ronnie & Nancy, Linn Lerraaen and great-niece: Amanda. Donald loved to play card games and made many good friends during his time living in Texas. He enjoyed visiting his favorite restaurant Las Donas in Mission and loved volunteering at the food bank at his church First Methodist Church in Mission. Cremation services will take place at Heavenly Grace Crematory in La Feria. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Funeraria del Angel of Mission.
