Born on August 21, 1934, Even came from humble beginnings. Before he was even 14 years old, he worked as a migrant laborer, learning early the value of sacrifice, perseverance, and honest work. Through determination and grit, he became a self-made man whose life story inspired everyone who knew him.
For six years, Even served as a coordinator for the Bracero Program, where he worked as an interpreter and advocate for migrant workers. He helped many with healthcare, housing, and legal paperwork, always ensuring others were treated with dignity and respect. His compassion and leadership made a lasting impact on countless lives.
He later began working at an Exxon distribution center, where his dedication and strong work ethic led him into management during his ten-year tenure there. After mastering the business, Even fulfilled another dream by opening his own service station, which he proudly operated for 35 years. At the same time, he owned and cared for a farm that he visited every weekend, raising breeding Red Brangus cattle with great pride and joy.
Even loved going to Whataburger for coffee with his friends, spending time at Kickapoo in Eagle Pass, and playing and watching golf. A self-taught golfer, he became so skilled that people often asked what college he had played for. He also enjoyed watching western television shows, especially *Gunsmoke*, and he was known as an exceptional storyteller whose memories and tales could captivate any room.
Above all, Even cherished his family. He taught his children the importance of hard work, pride, responsibility, and always putting family first. He encouraged them to take care of themselves and to pursue meaningful lives, and he took immense pride in their careers and accomplishments. His grandchildren brought him endless joy, and he never missed an opportunity to brag about them to his friends.
Even had an incredible memory. He memorized the phone numbers and birthdays of the people he loved and made sure to call and sing to them on their special days. He loved reading and continued learning throughout his life.
Whenever anyone asked how he was doing, his answer was always the same:
“Better than yesterday.”
That phrase reflected the gratitude, optimism, and strength with which he lived every day.
Even Perez leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, generosity, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and lovingly carried in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived with deep sorrow by his four children, Dina (Jay) Rodriguez, Carlos (Rosie) Perez, Even Eloy Perez, Lisa (Robert) Olvera; six grandchildren, Michael Jay, Matthew James (Megan), Dr. Zachary Charles, Victoria Jade, Dr. Joshua Carl (Dr. Bailey), Dr. Evan Dustin (Aniella); five great-grandchildren, Mathis Jacob, Madison Ren, Aleina, Aviana, Gabriel; many more family and friends.
