

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sonia Garza Mejia, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted Catholic teacher. Sonia was born on January 12, 1957, in Brownsville, Texas, and peacefully passed away on February 27, 2025, in Edinburg, Texas, at the age of 68.
Sonia was preceded in death by her father, Alfonso Gara, her mother, Maria Luis Garza, her brother, David Garza, and her great-grandson, Bryson Deon Garcia.
She is survived by her daughter Erica Yvonne Mejia, sons Fabian Andres Mejia (Jennifer) and Alberto Mejia Jr., granddaughters Dorie R. Williams, Alicia M. Mejia, Maya Isabel Mejia, Alyssa Marie Perez, Audrina Nicole Perez, Maritza M. Mejia, Isabella B. Mejia, grandsons Fabian Andres Mejia Jr., Honorio Abel Mejia, Caleb M. Rutman, Jason Isaiah Mejia, and great-granddaughter Avery Renee Garcia.
Sonia was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where she was involved with the Catholic Daughters of America and the Carmel Order. She devoted much of her time teaching the class "Jesus through Mary" and had a deep devotion to Our Lady of Fatima. Her love for her faith and commitment to teaching and serving others made a lasting impact on all who knew her.
In addition to her work in the church, Sonia had a passion for traveling and enjoyed experiencing the world with her loved ones.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00PM at Funeraria Del Angel 3611 N. Taylor Rd Mission, TX 78573. The visitation will continue, Friday, March 7, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2201 Martin Ave, McAllen, TX 78504 at 12:00 PM, followed by a Burial at 1:00 PM at Valley Memorial Gardens 3605 N Taylor Rd Mission, TX 78573.
Sonia's unwavering faith, love for her family, and dedication to her community will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.
