Yolanda Serrano Marquez, a devoted wife, loving mother, caring sister, dedicated daughter and generous friend, passed away in her home on July 13, 2025 at the age of 68. Born on December 4, 1956, Yolanda lived a beautiful life defined by her kindness, generosity, and deep love for her family and friends.
Yolanda, a longtime resident of Mission, Texas, created a loving home and family with her childhood sweetheart and husband of 46 years, Juan Jorge Marquez. She was the proud mother of three children: Yvette S. Marquez (Mauro Cabrales), Yvonne S. Marquez (Gloria Delgadillo), and Juan Jorge Marquez Jr.
Yolanda is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Amelia Serrano, and her sister, Irma Esparza. She leaves behind her siblings: Maria Laura Salinas (Rodolfo †), Manuel Serrano Jr. (Alicia), Ricardo Serrano (Sylvia), Elvira Pulido (Mingo), Raquel Serrano (Lupe, son Matthew Brandon Flores), Hector Serrano (Blanca), Elia Serrano (Jaime), and Enrique Serrano (Ruthie †).
For 32 years, Yolanda served as a beloved teacher's assistant, and, later, a school clerk, at Roosevelt Elementary and Leal Elementary. She was often recognized around the community by her former Pre-K students who fondly remembered her. Education was important to Yolanda and she helped numerous children learn primary colors, numbers, and skills. Her colleagues and friends affectionately referred to her as "Markie."
In addition to working at a school, Yolanda was an office administrator for her father's business, M. Serrano Construction, for 40 years. Alongside her father, brother Hector, and sister Elivira, she helped shape a successful construction business that served the entire Rio Grande Valley.
Known to her friends and family as Yoli, she is remembered for her fun, easy-going personality. Her laughter and smile brightened the lives of each and every one she met. Yoli made friends wherever she went and fostered life-long friendships — including her comadres, school classmates, and family friends, the Miller family from Lebanon, Indiana.
Yolanda enjoyed listening to Tejano and oldies music on her stereo and dancing with her children in the kitchen. Following in the footsteps of her parents, she tended to her roses, fruit trees, and plants, watering them in the evening and sitting on the patio.
She will be deeply missed but her love lives on forever
