Arnold H. Silverman
January 9, 1929 – April 22, 2025
Arnold H. Silverman, born in Jersey City, N.J., was a longtime resident of Laguna Niguel, Calif. Arnold passed away peacefully at the age of 96. Known affectionately as “Arnie,” he was a man of quiet strength and deep humility, whose remarkable life story came to light only in his later years.
For nearly six decades, Arnie kept a profound chapter of his life private: His service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. It wasn’t until his later years that he shared this part of his past, even with his wife, Myrna, whom he married five years after his military service. This June would have marked 70 years of Myrna and Arnie’s marriage.
Arnie’s dedication to his country was matched by his commitment to his community. He was actively involved in local affairs and was known for his unwavering support of veterans’ causes. For several years, he served as commander of the Laguna Beach VFW. His neighbors remember him as a compassionate individual who always extended a helping hand and a listening ear.
He is survived by his loving wife, Myrna, his daughter Meryl (Gary) and his sons, Robert (Lori) and Donald, six grandchildren including Adam, Tory (Erik), Carly, Julia, Ally and Marc, plus a host of friends who cherished his wisdom and kindness. Arnie’s legacy serves as a testament to the virtues of service, humility and community spirit.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Arnie’s life and contributions. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fisher House in Long Beach, Calif. The Fisher House provides temporary lodging and other support for eligible families and caregivers of veterans and military service members who are receiving treatment at medical facilities in Southern California.
