Catherine Jane Waltz was born December 21, 1923 the only child of William Francis Duggan,
(Buffalo, NY) and Freida Pantle, (Scranton, PA) Catherine graduated from Kensington High School
In 1941, where she was an Honors student, President of the Drama Club, President of the French
Club, and sang in the Kensington Chorale. She received a BA in Education from the University of
Buffalo, New York in 1962, where she graduated Cum Laude, was Chairman of the Convocation
Committee and also was named “Woman of the Year”.
Catherine married the love of her life, Edward Francis Waltz in 1946 in Buffalo, New York. Hardworking
and devoted parents, they raised two sons, Edward Francis Waltz, Jr and William Michael Waltz.
They relocated to Southern California in the early 1970’s, and spent their retirement years traveling,
volunteering and enjoying family and friends. Catherine was predeceased by her loving husband
of 57 years in 2003.
Catherine, also known as “Kat”, “Cathy” and CJ, was universally loved and respected for her loving
heart, kindness, selflessness, humility, sense of humor, infectious laugh and radiant smile. She taught
2nd and 3rd grade children with learning disabilities at Maryvale Primary School, Cheektowaga, New York for 14 years. Catherine was recognized by the National Teachers Conference, (Chicago, Ill) for her
outstanding achievements for her work with children with learning disabilities. She was a volunteer for many
Years at the Palomar Hospital in Escondido, California, and was Secretary of the Escondido Travel Club.
Catherine was immensely proud of her family, always had a good word and a smile for everyone she came in contact with and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
Catherine is survived by her loving children, Edd & Toni Waltz, Bill & Irmagaard Waltz, grandchildren, Angela, Nick and Lauryn, Duggan, Lena and Sean, Jon and Kelly and eleven great grandchildren, Giancarlo and Alyssa,
Alexis, Sienna, Fox, Adalyn, Sawyer, Ace, Abigail, Everly and Aidan, two great-great grandchildren, Emma,
Elijah, and three nieces Pammy, Dixie and Debbie.
A Special Life Celebration for Catherine will be held on Saturday, November, 16th, 2019, late afternoon
at Fairhaven Dignity Memorial, 27856 Center Street, Mission Viejo, CA 92692
Catherine will be laid to rest with her husband, Ed at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego,
California.
