It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doug Albee, who was released from this earthly life on September 23, 2025. We will miss him dearly, but we are grateful that he is now free from pain.
Doug was born on February 11, 1948, in Norridgewock, Maine, to Glen and Dolores Albee. He was raised in Los Angeles, CA, and graduated from George Washington High School. Soon after, he began working at McDonnell Douglas as a tool storage attendant.
In March 1968, Doug was drafted and just before deployment to Vietnam, he married Sandra on September 10, 1968. After an honorable discharge in October 1969, he returned to McDonnell Douglas. Doug and Sandy welcomed daughter Michele in 1970, and son Kevin in 1974, while living in Redondo Beach, CA. During this time, Doug pursued higher education, earning an Associate of Arts Degree in Production Technology from El Camino College, where he was a member of their honor society.
In 1977, the family moved to Mission Viejo. Tragedy struck in 1982 when Sandy passed away, leaving Doug a widower with two children. He found strength and community through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he became active in service. In 1987, Doug met Kayleen, and just eight weeks after their first date, they were married. The following year, they welcomed their daughter Erin.
Doug built a long and accomplished career with McDonnell Douglas, later Boeing, where he worked as an industrial engineer and manager on the C-17 program. He furthered his education by earning an Advanced Industrial Technology Certificate from California State University, Long Beach. In 1990, Doug endured the heartbreaking loss of his son Kevin at the age of 16. Though he carried the deep loss of Kevin, Doug cherished the additions of Douglas in 1994 and Katie in 1996.
Throughout his life, Doug was deeply involved with his children’s activities–whether in sports, scouting, or family adventures. He was also devoted to church service, fulfilling callings in the elders quorum and bishopric, and serving for many years as ward clerk. After 49 years of dedicated work, Doug retired from Boeing in 2016.
Doug will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, and friend. Known for his quiet integrity, loyalty, kindness, and sense of humor, he touched countless lives.
He is survived by his beloved wife Kayleen; children Michele, Erin, Douglas, and Katie; sisters Valorie and Debbie; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sandy, his son Kevin, his brother Gary, his sister Cathy, and his grandson Liam.
Doug loved to travel, especially to the redwoods with Michele and Kevin, and later enjoyed cruises around the world and Sunday drives. He was an avid reader, a fan of war movies and sci-fi, and someone who always valued time with family and friends. His legacy of love, kindness, and humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Services to honor Doug’s life will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 23850 Los Alisos Blvd, Mission Viejo, CA
