

Agnes Betancourt Clarke – a 97 year-old native and resident of Mobile passed away on Monday, May 31, 2010. She retired from Gayfer’s Department Store in downtown Mobile as a sales clerk after 45 years of service. Mrs. Clarke was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society, the Riese Club, and the Burse Club. She also volunteered with the American Cancer Society and the Visitation Gift Shop. Mrs. Clarke was preceded in death by her husband, Upton William Clarke; son, William Edward Clarke; daughter, Patricia C. Thublin; grandchildren, Joseph Clarke and Thomas Clarke, Jr.; and brother, Edward Betancourt. She is survived by a son, Thomas P. Clarke (Patricia); daughter-in-law, Ethel D. Clarke; grandchildren, Vicki Marie Thublin Blankenship (Thomas) of Hartselle, AL, Karen Clarke Andrews (Dale), William E. Clarke, Jr., Patrick Joseph Clarke (Eve) of Atlanta, GA, Christopher James Clarke, Michael Allen Clarke of Denver, CO, Timothy Allen Clarke (Marian), Catherine Marie Schwall (Lee), Melissa Anne Clarke, and Richard Clarke; great-grandchildren, Justin John Harwell Clarke of Atlanta, Paul Joseph Clarke, Tyler Schwall, Jonathan Clarke of Daphne, William E. Clarke, III of New Jersey, Ashley Michelle Clarke of Philadelphia, PA, and Ryland Blankenship and Carson Blankenship of Hartselle; many other relatives and friends. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the members of the staff and administration at Allen Memorial Home for all of their wonderful care and support. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Friday, June 4, 2010, at 9 a.m. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Thursday, June 3, from 6-7:30 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Catholic Cemetery.
