

She attended St. Joseph School and graduated from the Convent of Mercy. Following graduation, she went to work at the Alabama Dry Docks and Shipbuilding where she met her husband of 58 years, the late Arthur L. Horton, Jr. In 1954, Mrs. Horton was hired by Roberts Brothers as their first lady sales agent and remained there until her retirement in 1994. She was also a past president of the Women’s Council of Realtors.
She was a member of Heron Lakes Country Club and at various times was District and Regional Chairperson of several Community Causes such as the Heart Fund and the March of Dimes. Mrs. Horton also worked with Keep Mobile Beautiful through the Skyland Park Garden Club in the Clean Campus Program. She was a charter member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. She loved her family, enjoyed playing bunco/cards with her friends, and will always be remembered as a people person.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip T. and Essie Brill Hannie. Mrs. Horton is survived by three children, Rev. J. Michael Horton (Sue), A. Thomas Horton (Carol), and Laurie Horton Schaerer (Randall); three grandchildren, Christopher and Benjamin Horton, and Megan Lambert; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 21, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
