Andrew Travis Oakes went to be in the arms of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. He was 39. Travis was born to Hank and Marsha Oakes on February 8, 1986, in Mobile, Alabama. He grew up rough housing with his two older brothers and playing with neighborhood friends. Travis enjoyed playing ball at Mims Park, and later football at Mobile Christian School. He took many cross-country trips with family and family friends, and enjoyed spending summers in Arkansas with his grandparents.
Travis graduated from Mobile Christian School, Class of 2004. He then attended Auburn University where he continued many of his lifelong friendships. Travis was a longtime engineering technician and was currently employed by the Alabama Department of Transportation.
Travis enjoyed golf with friends, reading (primarily historical non-fiction), rooting for the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Braves, and Auburn Tigers, and playing with his nieces and nephew at any opportunity. He and his brothers loved spending time together and would regularly travel hours to attend a concert or music festival. He would light up any room he entered. Travis was a salt-of-the-earth kind of man – reliable, conscientious – and a dedicated employee. He loved to make people laugh and could find humor in most situations. Travis was a caring friend, brother, and uncle, and a loving son. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Berman and Benny Maxey; paternal grandparents, Doug and Jean Oakes; an aunt, Cathey Maxey Groth; and one uncle, Joe Oakes.
Left to cherish Travis’ memory are his parents, Marsha and Hank Oakes; brothers, Clayton Oakes (Tiffany) and Tyler Oakes (Robin); nieces, Lorelei and Emelia Oakes; nephew, Tanner Oakes; as well as many cherished friends.
Visitation for Travis will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a Memorial Service immediately following in the chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Mobile Christian School.
